How Fig & Bramble do: Eco-Friendly & Sustainable Wedding Flowers

As a small and locally-based business, we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously. If we can get this right for our wedding couples, it ensures that a very natural element of their wedding (flowers!) isn't marred by poor environmental practice.

Here's a little run through of how we ensure that, at Fig & Bramble, we create eco-friendly and sustainably wedding flowers.

Locally grown flowers

We love to source a significant proportion of the flowers we use from local growers. We have the benefit of accessing the South West Flower Grower Collective, which involves many small-scale growers grouping together to deliver the right flowers for the right occasion- no mean feat with our English weather!

There are several key advantages to using local growers:

  • low travel footprint

  • flowers grown to organic standards

  • seasonal flowers that embed the time of year

  • incredible scent and movement (the wiggly stems are the prettiest)

Composting

All our green waste is composted on site at Fig & Bramble HQ in West Grimstead, Wiltshire. This ensures that no organic, biodegradable waste reaches landfill, and we use the compost to grow our own flowers in our small cutting patch.

Zero floral foam or single-use plastic

Very sadly, a great number of florists still rely on floral foam (that green stuff) to create their designs. Floral foam is highly toxic and is not bio-degradeable, leaching microplastics and other nasties into the earth.

At Fig & Bramble, we have eradicated foam from our designs completely, preferring reusable methods instead, such as water vessels, chicken wire and moss.

We've also cut all single-use plastics from the business, instead preferring to use biodegradable cellophane, reusable cable ties and glass and ceramic vessels.

Electric vehicles

We're super proud of our beautiful electric vans, Patsy and Eddie (named after Ab Fab), which we use for all our flower transportation. Our vans have the benefits of zero-emissions and can be recharged from sustainably generated energy sources. They're also just so pretty!!
