Pinterest and Instagram are stuffed full of ideas for using wedding florals for incredible, impactful decor. However, flowers are expensive, whoever you are, and whether you have a flower budget of £4000 and £40,000, it's always sensible to think strategically about where to spend your money, to create impact. The key to this, is using a floral installation.
Location
The first thing to decide is where you'd most like to create a "wow" factor. The most common areas are:
an entrance, e.g. into a church or marquee
the ceremony space
dining tables
ceiling space
a 'photo fun' area
Your priorities
When deciding where to focus your florals, things to consider include:
Are photographs important to you? You may wish to focus on the ceremony space.
Is the dining experience of your guests particularly important to you? You may wish to focus on your table scape.
Are you having your reception in a marquee, sailcloth, glasshouse or tipi? You may want to use hanging florals to break up the space and add warmth and design.
Would you like to hit your guests with an immediate "wow" to set the tone for the whole day? Entrance flowers get the day off to a bang.
Is a key space already highly decorative, or does it need personalisation and impact?
Types of installation
"The Frame"- this is an installation that is particularly impactful in portrait photos. It can range from an arch outside a church, to an immersive photo space.
"The Hanger"- this is an installation that is dependent upon existing fixings or mechanisms to enable florals to be hung in a ceiling space. This is particularly effective in high roofed spaces, such as marquees and barns.
"The Tablescape"- this is where florals are used to create an immersive dining experience, and flowers may be used alongside herbs, fruits and even vegetables for a memorable impact on all the senses.
"The Aisle"- this is an aisle or walkway of flowers to give a sense of journey and progression. This can work well for the drama of the ceremony procession, or to create a transition from one key space to another.
"The Cluster"- this is an array of arrangements that, individually, may not be particularly substantial, but are used collectively to create a big impact. These can include meadows, baskets, churns, urns, plinths etc. They tend to be very versatile and transportable and could be used to create a ceremony display and subsequently be reused for a cake display or top table backdrop.
At Fig & Bramble, we will always provide advice on installations that is tailored to your venue, priorities and budget.
To include an installation in your wedding design, we typically recommend that you have a minimum overall flower budget of £3,000. However, there's always the option of focusing your budget on one key area, and compromising in other areas, get in touch to see what's possible for your dream day.
